Anthony and Caroline Cafe Awards in Tasmania

Hi All,

In March this year Latte and Lunch entered a competition run by Pauls Milk (Parmalat) for Cafe of the year 2007. We had four rounds Judging by mystery shoppers and six weeks ago we were told we made it to the Grand Final. 2,600 shops entered and the final 50 stores were all invited to Hobart this weekend for an all expenses paid weekend for the Grand Final awards night.

We were very proud to make the grand final and although we did not manage to take out the Cafe of the year for 2007, we did make the top 10. The Winner was "The Lagoon Cafe" in Cairns. Always next year.......if we are still there.

We were treated to an oyster farm, (although we don't eat seafood) on arrival in Hobart. On the Friday night we were taken by a luxury Catamaran one hour south of Hobart to a restaurant called Peppermint Bay for dinner. On Saturday morning we drove to the top of Mt Wellington, the highest mountain in Tasmania and push biked back to Hobart. We managed to have a look at the Salamanca Markets for Lunch before having a Massage and facial in the afternoon before the Awards night. The Awards were held in a five star hotel called the Henry Jones hotel. It was the original Jam factory over 100 years ago that IXL brought out and is right next to the Royal Hobart Yacht Club. Michael Caton from Hot Properties was the MC / Host for the weekend ...he was great. (Tell him he's dreamin)

We have just returned to Brisbane this afternoon and back to the warmer weather. Back to the shop tommorrow. It was nice to have made it so far and be recognized as making Latte and Lunch a success....maybe not financially but recognized for doing a good job anyway.
